2023 Toyota Prius Trim Levels
The all-new 2023 Toyota Prius is ready to guide you toward a better future. It all starts with a next-generation Hybrid Synergy Drive system that intelligently combines fuel combustion and electric power. Part of the updated Prius is a new, more powerful engine that generates better efficiency ratings. Add cutting-edge technology to help ease your daily commute, and you’ll feel a genuine connection to the road and the environment. Our team at Red McCombs Toyota in San Antonio, Texas, has listed the six available trim levels of the 2023 Toyota Prius. Let’s take a look at each in further detail.
LE and LE AWD
Both initial trims of this new Toyota are well equipped on the outside, starting with an active grille shutter, color-keyed outside door handles, Bi-LED projector low- and high-beam headlights, and folding heated power outside mirrors. You’ll also get automatic high beams and LED daytime running lights, both with auto on and off, plus LED brake lights, 17-inch alloy wheels with covers, washer-linked variable intermittent windscreen wipers, and a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna. The ground clearance for both trims is 5.6 inches.
On the inside, both trims come standard with a single zone climate control system with pollen filtration, extendable dual sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows with auto up and down, a top-mount multi-information display, a 7-inch LCD display, and six USB-C charge ports — two in the front, two in the center console, and two in the rear. Both trims also have 23.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
You also get the Toyota Smart Key system, a SofTex-trimmed tilt and telescopic steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth phone controls, two front and two rear cup holders, fabric-trimmed front seats, a cargo area tonneau cover, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats with a center armrest, a center console with armrest and storage compartment, a rear dome light, and a cargo area light.
The Toyota Prius’ engine is an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 150 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque on its own. The total system power is 194 horsepower when combined with a single front-mounted electric motor in front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles. The LE is also the most efficient 2023 Toyota Prius trim level, with 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway.
The LE AWD is only different from the LE by including Toyota’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which features two electric motors powering the rear wheels in tandem with the same engine, plus a 0.9-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and it gets 196 total horsepower. It also earns 5 more mpg than it did last year, reaching 54 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway.
XLE and XLE AWD
The XLE and XLE AWD are the midrange trims, with all of the basic features of the LE and LE AWD. However, starting from the XLE and onward, all 2023 Prius trim levels get a higher ground clearance of 6.0 inches. They also get 20.3 cubic feet of cargo space, 19-inch alloy wheels in place of the 17-inch set, rain-sensing variable intermittent windscreen wipers, and an option to add a fixed glass roof.
In addition to general interior amenities of the LE and LE AWD trims, XLE models get Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging with a charge indicator light, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a Smart Key system on the front doors and trunk. They also get heated front seats, SofTex-trimmed front seats, two front and two rear cup holders, two front and two rear bottle holders, illumination notification, and a heated steering wheel.
These two models also include a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touch screen, in place of the 7.0-inch screen. Front and rear parking sensors as well as automated low-speed braking are standard on these trims. As for efficiency, they achieve 52 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway in FWD, and 49 mpg in the city, and 50 mpg on the highway in AWD.
Limited and Limited AWD
If you want the finest Prius possible, check out the Limited and Limited AWD, which add a surround-view camera and Advanced Park. While driving on the same wheel size as the XLE and XLE AWD, these two trims include the fixed glass roof for unrivaled sky views as well as a power liftback, digital key capability, a two-setting memory driver’s seat, and heated and ventilated front seats. These versions also include an optional digital rearview mirror and heated rear seats.
Get a Prius with Limited in the name, and you’ll also enjoy a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display, plus 8-speaker JBL premium audio including an amplifier to enhance your listening experience. Both trims also have the XLE and XLE AWD’s efficiency ratings.
What Stays the Same on Every Trim?
Despite the gain in performance, you’d be surprised that the Toyota Prius’ EPA-rated gas mileage and mpg ratings haven’t improved even further. While there are some powertrain differences between the trims, many important features are the same or very similar. For instance, every trim uses a continuously variable Atkinson transmission, with updates that also helped improve performance and efficiency.
The Toyota Prius has the internal dimensions to keep everyone at ease. The external specifications of all trims are 181.1 inches long, 70.2 inches wide, and 56.3 inches high, with a 108.3-inch wheelbase. These generous dimensions add up to plenty of passenger volume.
As expected, with a trusted name such as Toyota, most safety features are standard across all trims, including anti-lock braking, stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and a rearview camera. Every Prius comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 3.0), which includes LED headlights with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, proactive driving assistant, lane departure warning with steering assist, and lane tracing. Hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-seat reminder, and safe exit assist are all included as well.
